Cover crop, weed competitor and soil improver
Being an N-fixing legume, greenleaf desmodium can improve soil fertility. It can be used as ground cover as it needs only 4 months to cover the soil, and to prevent weeds from developing (ILRI, 2013). It has been used as ground cover on coffee plantations (Maina et al., 2006).
